Book Review: The ONE Thing

I recently finished reading the book, The ONE Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan. A great read! Easy to digest. And being a mindfulness practitioner, the idea of a focusing question to guide your work really resonated with me.

The focus question: “What’s the ONE Thing I can do such that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary?” This question is helpful in prioritizing one’s day. I also think it’s a great job search strategy. Rephrased, “What’s the one thing I can do in my job search that will make everything else easier?” Focusing on achieving one thing helps people feel productive and on track. And once that one thing is achieved, re-ask the question. That’s how progress works.

I give this book a thumbs-up. Definitely worth reading.

Thanks for these book reviews! I look forward to adding these books to my must-read list. For me, I think reframing the above question to something like the following will be useful for people who might not be 100% satisfied with their current position: What's the one attitude shift I can make to release particular beliefs or opinions about what irritates me at work.
